Untouched for centuries, the Scottish version of Stonehenge, the Callanish Stone Circle, rests in the swirling mist on the Isle of Lewis. Time passes without apparent change, but a mystical clock is ticking, and a great shifting of forces is about to occur.
When a team of young archaeology students and their teachers from Oxford University travelled to the ancient stone circles at Callanish, they were unaware that they would be fulfilling the prophecy of Merlin the magician. Lying concealed under the ruins of the stone circle is a labyrinth of tunnels and secret rooms that the group finds and uses to take shelter from a freak storm. Emerging from their shelter they discover they have been thrust back in time. Discovering the mysterious weapons left for them by Merlin, they prepare themselves to battle the sinister Cairnholy Druids. The ancient spell Merlin cast against the evil forces is losing its power. A new Dark Age is about to befall mankind. Weak and overcome by traitors within his circle, Merlin left behind a legacy that he hoped would be used to triumph over the forces of darkness, the evil Druid cult of the Enlightened Ones.
Led by young Dr. Andy Scot and his mentor, Dr. John Hale, the group stumbles into Merlin’s Hall of the Round Table, where their fate is sealed. They are destined to become the Chosen Ones, so named because they have been selected to put the forces of evil and darkness to rest for all time.
Coming from the modern day, the group is unprepared for the events they are about to encounter. The fourteen students are suddenly faced with homesickness, fear, passion and terror as they are thrust into a sinister medieval world of demons and magic. They are guided by Merlin’s diary, which leads them through the unfamiliar world of which they are now a part. Dr. Hale’s skills are challenged as he struggles to interpret the diary as the battle rages around him.
Unaware that evil is nesting among them, one of the students, is actually a Druid high-priestess incarnation. She has managed to join the students, seducing and luring them into her web of darkness. One by one, male and female, she destroys them, absorbing their strength, growing more powerful with each conquest.
Armed with Merlin’s enchanted armor for protection, and aided by mythical creatures, the Chosen Ones set out to win the battle, struggling as they fight their way across ancient Scotland. As the group comes to terms with their predicament, they acquaint themselves with ideals that had been unknown to them in their 20th-century lives - valor, honor, and chivalry. Some rise up unexpectedly to become natural leaders, while others choose to join forces with the evil Carlene.
As the war draws to a close and evil has been put to rest, the group is catapulted back to the present day. However, two members are somehow left in the past to fend for themselves. Survivors of the transition vow to find a way to return to ancient Callanish and rescue the lost members of their team.
